چکیده
IN RECENT YEARS clinicians have had to think of histoplasmosis as well as tuberculosis when confronted with diffuse nodular calcific shadows in the lung parenchyma. Disseminated bone formation in the lung is rare, though a form associated with mitral stenosis has been recognized for many years. It is our purpose to review our experience with 4 eases of disseminated bone formation in mitral stenosis, to review autopsy-proved case reports, and to discuss the controversial (uestioll of pathogenesis. The combination of pulinoiiary ossification and mitral stenosis occurs primarily in young men from 21 to 40 years of age. The predominance of men is remarkable considering the more frequent occurrence of mitral stenosis ill women. Presenting symptoms and major physical signs are merely those accompanying ordinary mitral stenosis. Invariably congestive failure has occurred during the course of the disease. Hemoptysis is an infrequent presenting symptom, although a few patients Radiologic examination shows the characteristic findings of mitral stenosis and many have had severe pulmonary hemorrhage. dense opacities throughout the lung fields.

Idiopathic disseminated pulmonary ossification.
Disseminated ossification of the lungs is rare. Most of the cases reported in. the literature are associated with mitral stenosis, hemosiderosis and granulomas. Wells and Dunlap,’ in a review of the literature in 1943, stated that about 45 cases of diffuse ossification of the lung unassociated with tuberculous scars had been reported, of which about 35 cases were of the racemose or branching ty...
متن کاملDiffuse pulmonary ossification: A case report.
Diffuse pulmonary ossification (DPO) is a rarely diagnosed entity that may present with characteristic imaging features. It is listed in the differential diagnosis of lung parenchymal calcifications and should be considered by the radiologist if the appropriate findings are identified. We report a case of DPO secondary to mitral stenosis in a patient whose severe cardiac pathology lead to death...
متن کاملImmediate Results of Percutaneous Mitral Balloon Valvuloplasty in Patients with Mitral Stenosis
Introduction: Mitral stenosis is a prevalent valvular disease in developing countries. Percutaneous mitral balloon valvuloplasty (PMBV) is the gold standard treatment. The main objective of this study was to assess the initial results of PMBV in patients with mitral stenosis during 16 years (2002-2018) in Mashhad, Iran. Materials and Methods: From April 2002 to March 2018, 770 patients underwen...
متن کاملMITRAL STENOSIS COMPLICATED BY RENAL ARTERY EMBOLISM
Six patients with mitral stenosis complicated by renal artery embolism studied prospectively are presented. In five patients there was unilateral and in one patient bilateral renal artery involvement. The diagnosis was confirmed by intravenous pyelography, retrograde pyelography, renal angiography, renal scan or a combination of these. All had atrial fibrillation, proteinuria and elevated ...

Background: Percutaneous Transeptal Mitral Commisurotomy (PTMC) has been used in treating mitral stenosis with variable success, its main complication being mitral incompetence. There is a need to define the subgroup of the patients who benefit mostly from the procedure. Methods: We studied 110 patients (age 17 to 60 years mean 33.2) with mitral stenosis. PTMC was performed though femoral vein....
